摘要
Anincubationexperimentwasconductedtosimulatetheeffectoffloodingonwaterdeoxygenationinacidsulfatesoilfloodplainsystems.Theoriginallyoxygenated'floodwater'couldbedeoxygenatedimmediatelyfollowing'flooding'anditislikelythatthiswascausedmainlybydecompositionoforganicdebrisfromtheinundatedplants.Deoxygenationeventuallyledtothedepletionofdissolvedoxygen(DO)inthe'floodwater'anditishighlypossiblethatthisresultedinthetransformationsofferricFetoferrousFe,sulfatetohydrogensulfide,andorganicnitrogentoammonia(ammonification).Theaccumulationofthesereducedsubstancesallowsthe'floodwater'todevelopDO-consumingcapacity(DOCC).Whenthe'floodwater'ismixedwiththeintroducedoxygenatedwater,apartfromthedilutioneffects,thereducedsubstancescontainedinthe'floodwater'oxidizetofurtherconsumeDOcarriedbytheintroducedwater.However,itappearsthattheDOdropinthemixedwatercanonlylastforafewhoursifnoadditionalDO-depleted'floodwater'isadded.EntryofatmosphericoxygenintothewatercanraisetheDOlevelofthemixedwaterandlowerwaterpHthroughtheoxidationofthereducedsubstances.
