Finite Element Analysis of the Contact Mechanics of Ceramic-on-Ceramic Hip Resurfacing Prostheses

摘要 Ceramicsaregoodalternativetometalasbearingcouplematerialsbecauseoftheirbetterwearresistance.AFiniteElement(FE)studywasperformedtoinvestigatethecontactmechanicsandstressdistributionofCeramic-on-Ceramic(COC)hipresurfacingprostheses.Itwasfocusedinparticularonaparametricstudytoexaminetheeffectsofradialclearance,loading,aluminacoatingontheimplants,bonequality,andfixationofcup-boneinterface.Itwasfoundthatareductionintheradialclearancehadthemostsignificanteffectonthepredictedcontactpressuredistributionamongalloftheparametersconsideredinthisstudy.Itwasdeterminedthattherewasasignificantinfluenceofnon-metallicmaterials,suchastheboneunderneaththebearingcomponents,onthepredictedcontactmechanics.Stressshieldingwithinthebonetissuewasfoundtobeamajorconcernwhenregardingtheuseofceramicasanalternativetometallicresurfacingprostheses.Therefore,usingaluminaimplantswithametalbackingwasfoundtobethebestdesignforceramicresurfacingprosthesesinthisstudy.Theloading,bonequality,andacetabularcupfixationconditionswerefoundtohaveonlyminoreffectsonthepredictedcontactpressuredistributionalongthebearingsurfaces.
