Preliminary results of environmental monitoring of the natural gas hydrate production test in the South China Sea

摘要 Naturalgashydrate(NGH)isconsideredasoneofthenewcleanenergysourcesofthe21stcenturywiththehighestpotential.TheenvironmentalissuesofNGHproductionhaveattractedthecloseattentionofscientistsinvariouscountries.FromMay10toJuly9,2017,thefirstoffshoreNGHproductiontestintheSouthChinaSea(SCS)wasconductedbytheChinaGeologicalSurvey.Inaddition,environmentalsecurityhasalsobeeneffectivelyguaranteedviaacomprehensiveenvironmentalmonitoringsystembuiltduringtheNGHproductiontest.Themonitoringsystemconsideredsea-surfaceatmospheremethaneandcarbondioxideconcentrations,dissolvedmethaneintheseawatercolumn,andtheseafloorphysicaloceanographyandmarinechemistryenvironment.Thewholeprocesswasmonitoredviamultiplemeans,inmultiplelayers,inalldomains,andinrealtime.Aftertheproductiontest,anenvironmentalinvestigationwaspromptlyconductedtoevaluatetheenvironmentalimpactoftheNGHproductiontest.Themonitoringresultsshowedthatthedissolvedmethaneconcentrationinseawaterandthenear-seabedenvironmentcharacteristicsafterthetestwereconsistentwiththebackgroundvalues,indicatingthattheNGHproductiontestdidnotcauseenvironmentalproblemssuchasmethaneleakage.
