摘要 Rice(OryzasativaL.)isanimportantfoodcropandrequireslargeramountofwaterthroughoutitslifecycleascomparedtoothercrops.Hence,waterrelatedstresscauseseverethreattoriceproduction.Droughtisamajorchallengelimitingriceproduction.Itaffectsriceatmorphological(reducedgermination,plantheight,plantbiomass,numberoftillers,variousrootandleaftraits),physiological(reducedphotosynthesis,transpiration,stomatalconductance,wateruseefficiency,relativewatercontent,chlorophyllcontent,photosystemⅡactivity,membranestability,carbonisotopediscriminationandabscisicacidcontent),biochemical(accumulationofosmoprotectantlikeproline,sugars,polyaminesandantioxidants)andmolecular(alteredexpressionofgeneswhichencodetranscriptionfactorsanddefencerelatedproteins)levelsandtherebyaffectsitsyield.Tofacilitatetheselectionordevelopmentofdroughttolerantricevarieties,athoroughunderstandingofthevariousmechanismsthatgoverntheyieldofriceunderwaterstressconditionisaprerequisite.Thus,thisreviewisfocusedmainlyonrecentinformationabouttheeffectsofdroughtonrice,riceresponsesaswellasadaptationmechanismstodroughtstress.
