摘要
ArthurMillerisuniversallyrecognizedasoneofthegreatestdramatistsofthe20thcenturyintheUnitedStates,togetherwiththeconscienceofAmericandrama.Nevertheless,hisworkshavealwaysbeenconsideredashavingmisogynicinclinations.Thispaper,onthebasisofgendertheories,seekstoundertakeaninterpretationtotheelementsofmasculinityandfemininityregardingfemalecharactersinArthurMiller’sdramas.TakingTheCrucibleandAMemoryofTwoMondaysasacaseinpoint,theauthorseekstoidentifyanddiscussthreecategoriesoffemalecharacters,comprising“theangelinthehouse”,thefigureofMedea,andthesilencedandabsentfemales,inordertodeconstructMiller’sdichotomizedoutlookonfemales.
