Optimal distance from high power laser diode to cylindrical microlens in a coupling system

摘要 Inapracticalcouplingsystem,acylindricalmicrolensisusedtocollimatetheemissionofahighpowerlaserdiode(LD)inthedimensionperpendiculartothejunctionplane.Usingpassivealignment,theLDisplacedinthefocusofthecylindricalmicrolensgenerally,regardlessoftheperformanceofthemultimodeopticalfiberandtheLD.Inthispaper,amorecompleteanalysisisarrivedatbyray-tracingtechnique,bywhichtheangleθoftherayafterrefractioniscomputedasafunctionoftheangleθooftheraybeforerefraction.ThefocusofthecylindricalmicrolensisnotalwaystheoptimalpositionoftheLD.Infact,inordertoachieveahighercouplingefficiency,theoptimaldistancefromtheLDtothecylindricalmicrolensisdependentonnotonlytheradiusRandtheindexofrefractionnofthecylindricalmicrolens,butalsothedivergenceangleoftheLDinthedimensionperpendiculartothejunctionplaneandthenumericalaperture(NA)ofthemultimodeopticalfiber.Theresultsofthisdiscussionareingoodagreementwithexperimentalresults.
