摘要
AnimprovedtopographicdatabaseforKingGeorgeIsland,oneofthemostfrequentlyvisitedregionsinAntarctica,ispresented.AfirststepconsistedincombiningdatafromdifferentialGPSsurveysgainedduringtheaustralsummers1997～1998and1999～2000,withthecurrentcoastlinefromaSPOTsatelliteimagemosaic,topographicinformationfromexistingmapsandfromtheAntarcticDigitalDatabase.Fromthisdatasets,adigitalterrainmodel(DTM)wasgeneratedusingArc/InfoGIS.Inasecondstep,asatelliteimagemapatthescale1∶100000wasassembledfromcontourlinesderivedfromtheDTMandthesatellitemosaic.Alackofaccuratetopographicinformationintheeasternpartoftheislandwasidentified.AdditionaltopographicsurveyingorSARinterferometryshouldbeusedtoimprovethedataqualityinthatarea.TheGISintegrateddatabasewillbeindispensableforglaciologicalandclimatologicalstudiesandadministrativeandscientificpurposes.Infuture,theapplicationofGIStechniqueswillbemandatoryforenvironmentalimpactstudiesandenvironmentalmonitoringaswellasformanagementplansonKingGeorgeIsland.
