Dramaticchangeshaveoccurredinthepost-ColdWarworldstrategicconfigurationandinternationalorderwiththeirreplacementsburgeoning.Thisconfrontsnations,bigpowersinparticular,withnewstrategicchoices.Indeedunfoldingbeforeusisacontentionamongthemforseizingtheinitiativeintheemerginginternationallandscapeinthe21stcentury.Thushowtocorrectlyassessandrespondtothesechangesforpursuingareasonablestrategyandselectingarightpolicyoptionisnotonlyamatterofprimaryconcernfortheacademiccommunity,butalsoamajorforeignpolicytaskbeforearapidlygrowingChina.Forthis,asymposiumonthisthemewasrecentlysponsoredbytheEditorialDepartmentofContemporaryInternationalRelationstosolicitfromadozenorsoBeijingbasedwell-knownscholarsandexpertsfortheirviewsonandpolicysuggestionsforsuchissuesasthecurrentoverallstrategicpicture,globalconfiguration,trendsoftheinternationalorderandthestrategicenvironmentfacingChina.Excerptsoftheirmajorviewsareasfollows.
