Improved silica fiber with enhanced ultraviolet transmission

摘要 Whenasilicaopticalfiberisusedfortransmittingultraviolet(UV)light,theproblemsassociatedwiththedamageandtransmissiondeteriorationofsilicafiberintheUVregionneedtobesolvedinthefabricationprocess.Inthispaper,animprovedsilicafiberfabricationprocesswaspresentedtoenhanceUVtransmission,whichcombinedtheUVpre-irradiationonhigh-OHconcentrationpreformwithheattreatmentwhiledrawingfiber.Theimpactofthestructuraldefectsandcolorcenterswasdiminishedgreatlybythenewmethodoffabrication.Theexperimentalresultsaccordedwiththetheoreticalanalysis,andtransmissionwasimprovedabout0.4-0.7dB/mforwavelengthfrom350to400nm.
