Theparametersofhypocentrallocationareimportantfundamentaldataforthestudyofseismologyandtheearthinteriorphysics;amongthem,thefocaldepthisaveryimportantonebutcanhardlybemeasuredwithhigherprecision.Withtheincreaseofseismicstationsinnumber,theheighteningofobservationqualityandtheimprovementofdeterminationmethod,suchasituationhasbeenchangedmuch.Inthispaper,theresultsofhypocentrallocationandre-locationby7small-aperturedigitalseismicstationnetworksatTangshan,ZhangbeiandHuailaiofHebeiProvince,DatongofShanxiProvinceandJianchuan,LuquanandYao'anofYunnanProvinceareused.Usingtheseresultstogetherwiththoseoffocaldepthinversionbyfar-fielddataofsomeindividuallargeshocksincorrespondingareasandthosere-determinedbytheLinfentelemeteredseismicnetworkofShanxiProvince,acomparisonwiththeresultsoffocaldepthdeterminationinthepastearthquakecataloguesismade.Itisfoundoutthatthefocaldepthsdeterminedbythesmall-apertureseismicnetworksarebasicallydistributedintherangefromtheearthsurfacetoten-oddkilometersunderground.Incontrast,thefocaldepthsdeterminedinthepastaremostlydistributedatthedepthrangefromtheearthsurfaceto30kmunderground.Besides,thereisadifferenceof50%to100%betweentheaveragevaluesofthetwocases,whichisquiteanobviousone.Fromtheresultofanalysis,itisconsideredthattheresultsdeterminedbythesmall-apertureseismicnetworksmaybeclosertotherealityoffocaldepthsdistribution.Thatistosay,earthquakesintheabove-mentionedareasshouldbedistributedintheshallowpartofthecrust.Thecausesthatleadtotheabovesituationarediscussedpreliminarily,andsomesuggestionsandmeasuresforimprovingtheprecisionoffocaldepthdeterminationareputforward.
