  • 简介:TheDolomitesregionisaspectacularlyexposedportionoftheSouthernAlps,anorthernItalianchainderivedfromthecomparativelygentledeformationoftheTethyanpassivecontinentalmarginofAdria.TheregionhadanactivePermo-Jurassictectono-magmaticevolu-tion,leadingfromPermianmagmatism,throughaMid-dieTriassicepisodeoffastsubsidenceandvolcanism,totheJurassicoceanicbreak-up.AlthoughthesedimentarysuccessionrangesinagefromMiddlePermiantoCreta-ceous,thegeologicallandscapeislargelydominatedbythemajesticTriassiccarbonates,makingtheareaaclas-sicalonefortheearlyMesozoicstratigraphy.Particu-larlynoteworthyaretheAnisiantoCarniancarbonateplatforms,recordinganevolutionfromregionalmuddybankstoisolatedhigh-reliefbuilduos.Thehllineofthevariousbasinsandthedevelopmentofalastgenerationofregionalperitidalplatformfollowed.ThecarbonateplatformsoftheDolomitesbearwitnesstoaremarkablesetofchangesinthecarbonateproductionandtosignif-icantpalaeoclimaticfluctuations,fromaridtomoistcon-difionsandviceversa;agreatrangeofmarginandslopedepositionalstylesisthereforerecorded.Alpinetectonicshorteningstronglyaffectedthearea,withafirstEocenedeformation,followedbylaterNeogeneoverthrustingandstrike-slipmovements.

  • 简介:CubaisthelargestislandintheGreaterAntilles(GA)andhasbeenpartoftheNorthAmericanPlate(NOAM)sinceUpperEocenetime.ItisseparatedfromotherGAislandsbytheNorthCaribbeanTransformFaultSystemwhichdefinesthepresentboundarybetweentheNOAMandtheCaribbeanPlate(CARIB).TheGAbegantoform~135Maago,afterthebreakupofPangea,intheleadingedgeofCARIB,duetosubductionofProto-Caribbeanlithosphere(NOAM)beneathCARIBuntilcollisionwiththeBahamianplatformintheMiddletoLateEocenetime(~48to40Ma).BetweentheMaastrichtianandtheLateEocenetheCaymanspreadingridgeandtheOrientetransformformedandwesternCARIBwastransferredtoNOAM.ThegeologyofCubaisdominatedbythreelithotectonicunits,whichreflectsitsevolutionasaCretaceous-Paleogeneconvergentmargin:(1)deformed(para)autochthonousNOAMJurassicandCretaceouscontinentalmarginandbasinsectionsandPaleoceneEocenesynorogenicforedeep;(2)ophiolitecomplexesandserpentinitemèlangesand~135to47MamagmaticarcsuiteinterbeddedwithoroverlainbyLatestCretaceousPaleogenesynorogenicstrata;and(3)(neo)autochthonouslateUpperEocenetoRecentdepositswhichunconformablyoverliethetwoolderunits.

  • 简介:ThedevelopmentofmetamorphicpetrologytometamorphicgeologyinChinahasalonghistory.AncientbasementmetamorphicrocksaredistributedprimarilyintheNorthChinaCraton,theYangtzeBlockandTarimCraton.Theyaremainlymadeupofplutonicgneissandmetamorphosedsupercrustrock,transformedtogranulitefaciesthroughArcheanPaleoproterozoic.ManyofthePaleoproterozoicmetamorphicrockshaveundergonehigh-pressuregranulitefaciesmetamorphismwithaclockwisemetamorphicevolutionpath.Theultrahightemperature(UHT)granulitesfromtheLatePaleoproterozoicarefoundinNorthChinaCraton.Manyhigh-precisionchronologicaldatahaveallowedpreliminaryconstructionoftheformationandevolutionaryframeworkofdifferentmetamorphicbasements.Primarilytherearelow-temperatureandhigh-pressureblueschist,high-temperatureandhigh-pressuregranuliteandultrahigh-pressure(UHP)eclogitefaciesmetamorphicrocksinthePhanerozoicorogenicbelt.ThediscoveryofeclogiteintheSuluorogenandalargequantityofcoesiteinitscountryrocksshowthattherewasadeepsubductionofvoluminouscontinentalmaterialsduringthecollisionprocessbetweentheYangtzeblockandtheNorthChinaCratonintheEarlyMesozoicphase.Fromthestudiesof,forinstance,organicmattervitrinitereflectance,illitecrystallinity,illite(muscovite)polytypeandillite(muscovite)bdimension,theLatePaleozoicstrataintheeasternregionofInnerMongoliaandthenorth-centralregionofNEChinahaveonlyexperienceddiagenesistoanextremelylow-grademetamorphism.Thediscoveryofimpact-metamorphosedrocksinXiuyanareaofLiaoningprovincehasenrichedthetypeandcategoryofmetamorphicrocksinChina.Thephaseequilibriummethodhasbeenwidelyusedinthestudyofmetamorphismofmiddleandhigh-grademetamorphicrocks.Onthebasisofexistinggeologicsurveysandmonographicstudyresults,differentscholarshaverespectivelycompiled1:1500000MetamorphicGeologicalMapandSpecificationsofQinghaiTibetPla
