简介:ThestudyfocusesonthedifficultsituationofthePragueLinguisticCircle(PLC)duringtheSecondWorldWar(WWⅡ).DespitethedecreaseofpublicationpossibilitiesandcensorshipinthefirstyearsofWWⅡtheactivitiesoftheCircledidnotsubstantiallychange:meetingsandlectureswentonandalsoSlovoaslovesnost(WordandVerbalArt)waspublisheduntil1943.Nevertheless,acertaindecreaseofactivitiescamein1944.Ingeneral,duringWWⅡtheCirclewasoneoffewcentersofCzechscholarlyeffortandthankstoitseveralkeyindividualworksofVilémMathesius,JanMukaovsky,BohuslavHavrnek,JiíVeltrusky,VladimírSkalickaetc.andcollectivebookssuchasTorsoatajemstvíMáchovadíla(TheFragmentandMysteryofMácha'sWork),teníojazyceapoesii(ReadingonLanguageandLiterature)werepublished.TheseworkssignificantlyhelpedtopreserveacontinuityofanimportantresearchtraditionoftheCzechStructuralism,andinfluencedafurtherdevelopmentofCzechlinguistics,aswellasCzechliterarycriticism,aesthetics,andtheatrestudies.ThepresentstudyfocusesalsoonJanMukaovsky'sactivitiesduringWWⅡandonhisworkspublishedatthattime.
