Schisandra N-butanol extract improves synaptic morphology and plasticity in ovarectomized mice

摘要 PreliminaryworkbyourresearchteamrevealedthatSchisandra,arenownedtraditionalChinesemedicine,causeslearningandmemoryimprovementsinovariectomizedmice.ThisactivitywasattributedtoactiveingredientsextractedwithN-butylalcohol,namedSchisandraN-butanolextract.Inthisstudy,ovariectomizedmicewerepretreatedwithSchisandraN-butanolextractgivenbyintragastricadministration.Thistreatmentledtotheenhancementoflearning,andanincreaseinhippocampalCA1synaptic,surfaceandpostsynapticdensity.Adecreaseintheaveragesizeofthesynapticactivezonewasalsoobserved.TheseexperimentalfindingsshowingthatSchisandraN-butanolextractimprovedsynapticmorphologyindicateanunderlyingmechanismbywhichtheabilityoflearningisenhancedinovariectomizedmice.
