AbstractInthisstudy,mesoporoussilica/ironoxidenanocomposite(MCM-Fe203)wassynthesizedviahydrother-maltechnique.ThechemicalsynthesisofMCM-Fe203nanocompositewasachievedat18h.Theeffectofconcen-trationoftetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)onnanocompositespropertieswasstudiedduringsynthesisprocess.Forthispur-pose,0.5,1.5,2.5,3.5,and4.5mltetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)wereselected,respectively.ThetexturalpropertiesandmicrostructureofthenanocompositeswerecharacterizedbyX-raydiffraction(XRD),Fouriertransforminfraredspec-troscopy(UF1R),fieldemissionscanningelectronmicroscopy(FESEM),N2adsorption-desorption,andvibratingsamplemagnetometer(VSM)analysis.Resultsshowthatthenanocom-positewithtetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)/cetyltrimethylam-moniumbromide(CTAB)ratioof5exhibitslargesurfaceareas(461.19mZ.gJ).Furthermore,thisnanocompositeshowssuperparamagneticbehaviorunderexternalmagneticfieldcomparedtoothersamples.Moreover,resultsofremovalofmetalionsindicatethatadsorptionofNi(II),Cd(II),Cr(III),Zn(II),andPb(II)ionsonthesurfaceofadsorbent(nanocom-posite)increaseswiththeincreaseinsolutionpH,contacttime,andadsorbentdosage.Furthermore,themaximumremovalratesofheavymetalsionsreach53.0%,79.0%,61.0%,89.0%,and99.5%atpHof5,timeof50min,andtheweightofadsorbentof0.16with2.5mlTEOS,respectively.
