摘要
TheInternetevolvestoincorporatevery-high-bandwidthopticallinksandmorelarge-delaysatellitelinks.TCPfacesnewchallengesinthisuniqueenvironment.TheoryandexperimentsshowedthatTCPbecomesinefficientandispronetobeunstableastheper-flowproductofbandwidthandlatencyincreases,regardlessofthequeuingscheme.Variable-structurecongestionControlProtocol(VCP)isproposedtoaddresstheseproblems.However,VCPhasproblemintermsofconvergencetime,i.e.,ittakesalongtimeforanewVCPflowtoachievefairbandwidthallocationiftheexistingVCPflowshavelargecon-gestionwindows.ThispaperproposedanExtendedVariable-structurecongestionControlProtocol(EVCP),whichadoptedaconvergencecontroller.Thebasicideaofconvergencecontrolleristhatifaflowhaslargerwindowthanitsfairwindow,itscongestionwindowshouldbedecreasedmoreaggressivelythanusualinMultiplicativeDecrease(MD)phase.SimulationsshowedthatEVCPhasbetterperformanceintermsofconvergencetimewhilekeepingtheadvantagesofVCP.
