Afreeelectronlaser(FEL)withitscharacteristicsofwidewavelengthtunability,ultrashortpulsetimestructure,andhighpeakpowerdensityispredominantlysuperiortoallotherconventionallasersinapplications.Severalexperimentalstudiesonmid-infraredFELirradiationondentalenamelanddentinewereperformedattheBeijingFEL.EXperimentalaimsweretoinvestigatechangesinthehardness,ratiosofPtoCaandCsbeforeandafterirradiationonsampleswithacharateristicabsorptionwavelengthof9.66μm,inthecolorsofthesesamplesurfacesafterirradiationwithdifferentwavelengthsaroundthepeakwavelength.ThetimedependenceoftemperatureofthedentinesamplewasmeasuredwithitspspulseeffectscomparedtothatwithacontinuousCO2laser.FTIRabsorptionspectraintherangeof2.5-15.4μmforsamplesoftheseharddentalsubstancesandpurehydroxyapatitewerefirstexaminedtodecidtheirchemicalcomponentsandabsorptionmaximums.Primaryexperimentalresultewillbepresented.2001ElsevierScienceB.V.Allrightsreserved.
