TheruralsettlementsaccountedforagreatproportionofoverallbuildinglandinChina,butitstillexpandedinrecentyearsalongwithurbanizationandgraduallydecreasingruralpopulation.Toexplorethereasonforthisphenomenon,ananaly-sishasbeenmadebasedontheinvestigationinatraditionalagri-culturalregion.Thisstudyfoundthatsocioeconomicfactors,in-cludingthescaleoffamiliesanditsquantity,theimprovementofruralpublicinfrastructure,thechangeofpopulationandthepres-sureofarableland,haveeffectsontheexpansion.Theviewonlandtenurewhichhasshapedinfarmersmindsinthelonghaulmakesthemdisposetheirhousescautiously,andthiswasthemaincauseofthefactthatonehouseholdownmorethanoneplot.Inaddition,thelimitationsofrurallandinstitutionareunconducivetoinspiritingthetransferoffarmers'buildinglandandredevel-opmentoftheidlehousingland.
