A3-Dsoil-pipenonlinearfiniteelementmodelwithcontactelementissuggestedandtheinfluencesoftherupturemode,thicknessandrigidityofoverlyingsoilontheresponseofburiedpipelineareanalyzed.Thenumericalresultsshowthatthesoilrupturemodedeterminesthelocationofthelargedeformationorfailureofthepipeline,andtheplasticdeformationofthepipelineoccursatthezonewheretheplasticdeformationorruptureoftheoverlyingsoilappears.Whenthefaultdipangleonbedrockisnear90°,twoplasticdeformationsectionsofthepipelineappearwiththedevelopmentofoverlyingsoilrupture.Andthethickertheoverlyingsoilis,thelongertheplasticdeformationlengthofthepipelineisandthelessitsstrainis.Theplasticdeformationlengthofthepipelinedecreaseswhileitsmaximumstrainincreaseswiththerigidityofoverlyingsoilincreasing.
