InanefforttoutilizeNMRtechniquefortheanalysisofthestructuralcomponentsofwoodandbiomassessuchaslignin,wemadeacomparativestudyoflignincontentsofseveraltypesoflignocellulosicmaterialsbothbeforeandafterenzymatichydrolyses.Tothisend,EucalyptusGlobulus,Norwaysprucethermomechanicalpulp(TMP)cornstoverandEucalyptuskraftpulpwereball-milledandtreatedwithcellulasetopreparematerialswithhighlignincontents.Thesematerialswereanalyzedvia31PNMRinionicliquids.Theresultsshowthatthecontentsofvariousfunctionalgroupsforthelignocellulosicmaterialsafterenzymatichydrolysesaregenerallyinagreementwiththosefromtheircorrespondingenzymaticmildacidolysisliginins(EMALs),indicatingthat31PNMRanalysisoflignocellulosicmaterialsinionicliquidsisapromisingmethodforquantitativecharacterizationoflignocellulosicmaterials.
